FAQs

Park of the Pines is a campground on approximately 23 acres located on Lake Charlevoix in Boyne City, MI.

Who owns this campground?

Community of Christ owns and operates The Park of the Pines and governs it through a Board of Directors which is constantly maintaining and upgrading the facility. Because it is over 100+ years old this can be challenging. However, member donations and event income contribute to its enduring presence. It is a place loved by many people.

Why is swimming not allowed?

Swimming is only allowed when a licensed lifeguard is available under the grounds liability laws. Sometimes a volunteer provides this service and other times it needs to hire someone.  If you know anyone who has open water lifeguarding credentials, please let us know! We are always in need of a lifeguard. Young State Park is just down the road for those who want to swim.

Are there any activites planned?

This camp event setting is simply for relaxing and enjoying being outdoors. The only planned activity is some kind of small worship hosted by the Camp Host. It could be a campfire with praise songs, a call to prayer, a meditation walk, or other consideration. You may attend these activities of your own will.

Can we bring bikes?

Yes, bikes are allowed; however, our roads are not paved.  Our campground is very natural and rustic. The roads are gravel and often covered in leaves and pine needles but you can leisurely bike the grounds. The paved Boyne City Charlevoix bike trail runs alongside the property if you want to go to town.

Are golf carts allowed?

Yes, however it is unlikely you will find use for it unless getting to the bathhouse is a mobility issue. A policy is in place and a copy can be provided upon request.

Yes. We have a small play structure and swings located near the bathrooms on the upper terrace for children. Our nursery building is only available during Family Camp.

Is there a playground?

Do you have a boat launch?

Sorry, no boat launch. We do have a dock you can walk on or fish from.

Is there a camp store?

We do not have a camp store. However, you can use provided firewood on the upper terrace. Please consider a small donation. You can use your own firewood as long as it is from neighboring counties. Sorry, no ice.

Do you have cabins?

We currently have two cabins in the camping area on the upper terrace for use during camping events. These are by special request only.

The buildings look neat and  interesting. Why can't I go inside?

The buildings have many uses year round. There may be an upcoming event needing setup or takedown. The grounds keeper may doing maintenance. Unless there is a specific thing happening in which you are invited, we ask that you please stay outdoors.

Why have I not heard of this place?

This is a private church owned and operated property. Going back to its early beginnings (circa 1920,) church members from all over Michigan came to gather and worshiped at 'Reunion,' as church members called it, which happened for one week every summer. The gathering would also provide meals and fellowship to the people that came. Many families camped on the property during this time. As the decades passed, buildings were erected and eventually the camping areas were modernized with water and electricity. Today, this tradition holds true. For one week in the summer, the church holds 'Family Camp' (formally Reunion) where families spend the week in worship and praise with anyone who attends. The local community uses our grounds for special events, classes, and school sports camps, and embraces the beauty of The Park (as members refer to it) and enjoys its presence. In 2026, The Park wishes to connect more with its community and people by offering casual camping events to the public. It hopes to bring all people into this positive safe place that offers peace and unity with God.
